Sporting Support

Any sports person, athlete or club is only as good as their support team, and the Town of East Grinstead is no different.

In my role as SSCO (school sports co-ordinator) for Imberhorne School, I have been lucky enough to be part of a network of people that all have the very same specific aim in common; an aim that looks to enhance the lives of young people through sport.  Our East Grinstead network is vast.

It starts with Jon Ford (Imberhorne Head) and Maggie Robson (Sackville Head) leading by example and continues with our Town Mayor showing her own support for young people by attending numerous events, including our recent East Grinstead Primary School Celebration of Dance evening at the Chequer Mead Theatre.

Significantly, our network also involves coaches, team managers, sports leaders from Sackville and Imberhorne, club volunteers, our fantastic Primary School Heads and of course parents, all of whom give up an incredible amount of their own free time to help and inspire others.  As a town we are also very fortunate to be able to count on the experience of figureheads such as Richard Leman and Justin Bishop, as well as ‘drivers’ such as Rex Whittaker and Lorraine Everard (pictured above on the right).

However, the main reason for this piece is to say thank you and farewell to both Jon Ford and Maggie Robson.  As Heads of two fantastic Secondary Schools they have been two of the most loyal supporters of school sport during their time.  They are big losses for the town of East Grinstead, but I know the strong network of people will not allow for their hard work to be undone.
