DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR ASHURST WOOD
Ashurst Wood proved to be the best 7-aside Football Team in the
East Grinstead area as they recorded the 'double' by winning both
the 'Primaryship' and the 7-aside Football Tournament in the space
of 2 weeks.
During a brilliant afternoon of primary school football at Halsford
Park on the 3rd May, Felbridge and St. Peter's showed their class
by winning through to the knock-out stages, whilst Ashurst Wood
and Copthorne 'B' also qualified from their respective group.
Semi Finals:
ASHURST WOOD v ST. PETER'S
&
FELBRIDGE v COPTHORNE 'B'
In a really surprising turn of events, Copthorne 'B' overcame the
most stylish team in the tournament - Felbridge. This would match
together the tournament favourites, Ashurst Wood with the underdogs
from Copthorne, as the Wood narrowly beat the defending champions,
St. Peter's, in a very tight semi-final.
Final:
ASHURST WOOD v COPTHORNE 'B'
It turned out to be a fitting final as both teams went for the
victory from the first whistle. Both teams tried to play attractive
attacking football, while keeping it tight at the back.
There was very little between the two teams and it was clear that
one goal was going to be enough - and so it proved with Ashurst
Wood grabbing the winner. The jubilation was clear for all to see,
but there was much praise for the gallant losers who hade made it
all the way to the final.
A massive thank you must go to all of the helpers and staff at
Halsford Park and the Imberhorne Sports Leaders.
