Paralleled Success For Disability Sports Athletes
On Wednesday the 14th June, the Sussex County Sports Partnership
held the first ever Sussex Parallel Youth Games at the Triangle
Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill.
The aim of the event was to give young people with disabilities
the opportunity to compete against other people with similar disabilities
and enjoy a day of sporting activities.
It proved to be an exciting exhibition of disability sport in
the County with lots of skill and determination in evidence. The
event was brilliantly supported by local special schools, coaches
and volunteers from St. Paul's and Imberhorne School who ensured
that the event ran smoothly and that all participants enjoyed
the experience.
Young athletes competed in the following sports:
- MLD Basketball
- Wheelchair Basketball
- MLD Tennis
- Wheelchair Tennis
- Boccia
- New Age curling
- Swimming

It really was a fantastic competition for the youngsters taking
part, but it would not have been possible without the mature and
enthusiastic approach of the Junior Sports Leaders from St. Paul's
and Imberhorne School. They acted as scorers, carers, runners, officials
and supporters for the young people taking part and did themselves
and their schools proud.
