Girls Football Tournament

On Wednesday the 1st April 10 teams from various surrounding schools took part in a girl’s 5-a-side football tournament at East Grinstead Football Club. All the girls demonstrated an outstanding level of enthusiasm and skill making the day a real success.

Fortunately the weather stayed nice allowing us to press on with the tournament. The teams were placed into two groups; the winner of each group would then play in the final. The teams that battled their way to the end were St Mary’s A and St Peters. It was a fantastic final and both teams battled hard but it was St Peters who then won the dramatic game 3-0.

All the girls showed promising talent and great sportsmanship. Two individuals stood out especially, although it was a hard decision and so after much deliberation we awarded the spirit of the tournament player to Jodie Stepney from Copthorne C.E Junior School. We then decided on Flo Jackson for player of the tournament as she worked so hard throughout the tournament.

As a CSLA group, we are proud to say that the day went smoothly. It was nice to see our hard work and planning pay off to provide a great day out for the girls.

Finally we would like to say a huge thank you to all the girls and teachers who turned up and took part, without which, the tournament could not have continued.

We would also like to thank Bobby Wallis for his training sessions with the girls before the tournament and for setting up the pitches for us at East Grinstead Football Club. Also thanks to Ian Nichols for his assistance and of course Steve Hill for his continued support and encouragement.
