Hand – ball!!

Sports Leaders increasing participation

At the start of our inter-form event our HSLA group who were responible for organising the event had various aims and objectives that we wanted to achieve from the process. As a part of our HSLA course we needed to organise an event in order to pass. Therefore we decided to organise an intra form competition. A current issue at the moment is participation in physical activity. Consequently our inter-form competition was an ideal opportunity to provide students to participate in some sport. Another bonus of the competition as a form is that form cohesion could occur with team play required to play well and win.

We decided to choose handball as our sport for the tournament. We chose handball as it gave us an opportunity to include both girls and boys in the sport. We were able to do this as handball is a non contact sport. Furthermore, we could get the children to participate in a sport which they generally wouldn't have an opportunity to play.

For each year group, we divided the forms into two groups. Therefore one team from each group would go through to the final match to determine who the winner from each year group was. The year 7 participated in their handball inter-form on Monday 1st of march and Monday 8th of march. The year 8 dates were on Wednesday 5th of march and Wednesday the 10th of march. These dates were very close together meaning we had to be very organised as a group to ensure it ran smoothly and efficiently. Finally the year 9 dates were Monday the 15th of march and Wednesday the 17th of march. We were attempting to have our finals day on the 19th of march as it was sports relief. However the other group in our HSLA class had already planned a mile event on that date.

The winners of each year group were :

Year 7- form S and form X
Year 8- form U and form Z
Year 9- form Q and form Z

The final is being held on Thursday 29th April. The final is going to be held during lunch time break and is going to be outside on the courts.
