YOUTH SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

Sport for young people is now a major focus for a number of sport organisations, including Sport England.  Nationally, Sport England has placed young people high on the agenda, to ensure that opportunities exist for young people to get involved in sport at all levels and at whatever level of interest.  This does not only mean elite performers but also those who are happy trying different sports, for fun enjoyment or to improve.  It is then for the young people to decide what's for them.   From here it is hoped that young people will adopt a healthy lifestyle that will stay with them throughout life.

On a local level, youth sport development has received a boost through the appointment of a Youth Sport Development Officer for East Grinstead and the surrounding areas of Ashurst Wood, Copthorne, Crawley Down, Turners Hill and West Hoathley.   Working specifically for young people aged 4 - 18 years, this now provides a focus for youth sport in the area.  This position is funded by a unique partnership between Sackville Community College, Imberhorne School, West Sussex Youth Service, Mid Sussex District Council and East Grinstead Town Council and aims to develop and promote greater opportunities for young people throughout the local community.
