In March the Shogun Karate Club participated in the English
Karate Organisation, English and European Championships held
in Birmingham. This was the first time that the club has entered
the E.K.O Championships since we joined the association last
year.
Three members of the club entered the Sparing section of
the competition and all got through to the main rounds. The
club is very proud of the performance of the students and
is hoping to build on our success next year by increasing
the number of students participating in both areas of the
competition.
Mr G. Munns, the Chief Instructor, has asked Sensei Mick
Taylor to take charge of the competition sparing training
and Sensei Alex Lowe to lead the Competition Kata (Form) training
in preparation for the championships next year. In which both
Sensei Mick and Alex as well as a selecting of students are
planing to enter.
The club has a full written syllabus based on the teachings
of Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda 9th Dan (9th level black belt)
which is supplemented by both Kumite & Kata training for
Competition, in accordance with the EKO competition rules.
The club takes the safety of the students very seriously to
this end all sparing by under 16s is completely non-contact
and the club has a full range of sparing safety equipment
which is used where appropriate.
The Shogun Karate Club trains at the Dormansland Parish Room,
the Platt. On Wednesdays 6-8pm and Saturdays 10-12noon. The
club has an active Child Protection Policy as well as Child
Protection Officers. All instructors and students are fully
insured. For more information contact Mr G. Munns on 01342
